City vs Siddeh

Just listen to Joe Cocker singing "Summer in the city", and you may just spot one of my pet peeves in current state of English language: the t near the end of the word becomes a d. And, of course, as kitty becomes kitteh, actually kiddeh, so does city become ciddeh. Of course, if English were anywhere near phonetic, the confusion created by sounds would creep into the written (ridden) language, so it is still wridden the official way.

And this is not a rule. If it was, they would pronounce Citibank as Ciddehbank, but they never do. Go figure.

My conclusion about English language, at pretty much all levels, remains: there are no rules, there are only lists.
