Just a thought... about them Nielsen ratings etc. What was exactly the best thing on TV? The definition, please.
Ah, whatever is seen by most people. Whatever has the highest number of viewings. Something like web page counter. I wonder whether they count the first run viewership when they rerun something.
If they did, I think the results would turn the world of TV upside down. Whatever is repeated the most is watched the most. And what is repeated the most? The ads.
Funny, though, Nielsen et al never count the ads. As if they aren't aired (and some would turn really stale if they weren't aired :). They are syndicated with far less hassle and negotiations than any series. A really successful ad would be shown over and over, sometimes as much as four times an hour across several channels - count that, Nielsen! And they don't care whether it's prime time or early morning - they are not choosers. They run at all times. Some of them run for months, repeated over and over everywhere.
And there is, almost always, truth in advertising. It's not easy to spot it, though. The truth about an ad is the fact that it was made, paid and broadcast. Only sometimes we can doubt the "paid" part, but the rest is pure truth.
So, I've found it.
Still, no reason at all to ever start watching TV again.
