I have a page with english-serbian false friends on my website. Just today I noticed that nudla should be there, because a noodle is not a nudla. Noodle is a lengthy piece of pastry to be boiled and then (optionally) fried. Nudla is a fried lump of fresh pastry, not always cereal in nature - may be made of potatos or other ingredients.
Just wanted to check whether the history has changed on me again, and I googled the word, followed by "recepti" (recipes). I got a bunch of swedish cooking sites, where the word nudla means noodles, ergo not a false friend. Then limited my search to .rs domain, to get serbian results only... and the results are inconclusive. Half of the recipes are roughshod amateurish translations from the web, where they were put by who knows whom, but we know in which language. And sure enough, "noodles" wasn't translated as "špageti", "rezanci", "makaroni" or generally "testo", they were now "nudle". Forums, likewise. The new nudla is called ramen.
