Accidentally I found this. It's the schedule for a doctors' seminar. Except... it's rife with bad translations.
First off, a seminar here does not have an agenda, it has a programme, or schedule, or a plan. Agenda is just latin for "things to do", and if it wasn't imported from the neighbor Byzanthines in the last dozen centuries, I don't see why it should be imported from english.
Next, the title of the seminar: "Snaga pacijentima". Obviously, the title of the original (which means this whole seminar is a bad copy, or a mistranslation) is "power to the patients". But, "power" should be translated as "vlast" (authority); "snaga" means "strength", "potency", "brawn".
The list goes on: "Forum mladih sa invaliditetom" - we had various ways to describe persons with disabilities before the western PCspeak came to rule here. They were invalids - and the word did not mean "not valid", it meant exclusively the crippled or otherwise disabled. The PC purge had no work to do here, but it did. Now it's not "young invalids", it's "the young with invalidity".
"Odnosi sa državnim organima /Lobiranje" - "relations with government organs /Lobbying" - first off, a capitalized word in the middle of a sentence is pure engrbian. To save face, they kept government organs, which is the traditional name for various institutions which are a part of, or founded by, the government. To lose face, they introduce lobbying, which doesn't make sense - most of the health protection system (sistem zdravstvene zaštite - and not the "health industry") is also a government organ, so why would it lobby to itself? Unless the whole seminar is paid by big pharma.
"Institucionalna promocija prava pacijenata" - "institutional promotion of patients' rights" - would make little sense in serbian, since "promotion" has kept its meaning until just a decade or two. It meant what it originally meant, opposite of demotion. You got promoted to a higher rung in a hierarchy, or a promotion ceremony was organized for a graduating class. Now in engrbian it means moving something forward in the public eye, mostly for the sake of sales of something.
Last, "Veran Matić, RTV B92 – Društveno odgovorni mediji" - "socially responsible media" - a straight translation which lost nothing when translated back, except that in serbian "to respond" is heavily implied, with the explicit meaning of legal consequences.
Ah... here's the explanation: http://www.snagapacijentima.rs/ is sponsored by Merck, Roche, Janssen, Bayer. And the seminar is actually titled "national" - another engrbian expression. In serbian, it would imply nationalism; in engrbian, it seems to mean statewide.
It doesn't matter how many times we rape the language, what matters is that we get big pharma's agenda, lobbying, money and poisons under the guise of fighting for the patient's potency.
